A week earlier at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games a small team from Sierra Leone strode proudly into the arena, only to be introduced on television by Huw Edwards as a country which has emerged from a decade of horrendous civil war. That was over 12 years ago Huw! So is Sierra Leone still a bloody mess? .
One year in West Africa. On 20 June 2010, I will be heading to Freetown, Sierra Leone to take up a one year VSO placement. Working as an Advocacy Specialist for an NGO called Health For All Coalition, I will be helping to develop tools and opportunities for the health care workers of Sierra Leone, to ensure that their voice is represented and their opinions are known. I want to be a nurse in africa . Now, for all the time I have spent on this ship, I have never accompanied it onto the open water. I have known this ship in three different countries, through various stages of my life, but I have only ever known it to be stationary. Which was why I was so excited on Saturday morning.
